Sandra Villalobos

A rose with deadly spines, that makes you bleed from the wounds.

Her voice was well known in all Spain. "Un Angel" as many know her as she sings in all the "Tabernas" of that country.

Born in Saragossa, Spain, in the beginning of the 18th century. She started to sang really young, making a great carrier, and for that, her life was of a nomad.

But she was more than a singer. The second in command of a "Bandoleros" band.

They fought the power of the "Alcades" from the lands they pass, robbing the gold taxes and other artifacts for themselves or even to return to the people. As Robin Hood did long time ago.

Using her voice to get close of the Alcades, generals, captains of the Spanish army, to get the information they need to set up their plans.

They never thought, Sandra could be one of the heads of the Bandoleros, using her angelical voice to trick them.

Till one day and since they were known and had a reward on their heads, they easily got caught. And that included the ambulant artists that Sandra had as companions of journey.

Some could escape from prison, others were hang and Sandra was waiting for the trial. Knowing to well that would never happen, since justice at that time didn't work. 

She waited and waited from someone to rescue her. But they never came.

In prison, she was tortured, raped and many others things and the only thing she had to do was say the "names of the Bandoleres and you'll be free, señorita".That was what they told her. Sandra knew, it wasn't true, she would be hang like the others.

And she waited, looking through a small hole of her cell staring at the daylight, singing with that angelical voice she was gifted.

That voice almost hypnotic, leading the soldiers and the guards of the prison roam in awe to her cell, just to listen to her. Sandra's movements of the Sevillanas was a must to see, begging for more.

It was her way of freedom, but not for long time. The Church and the Inquisition heard about this woman. La Bandolera as she was known by now.

And since the Justice couldn't related her with the rest of the Bandoleros, they've found a way to get rid of her.

WITCH! A daughter of Santan, his bitch. Seducing man with malefic sways and the voice wasn't of an angel. Was the devil itself singing.

The Inquisitor made confess her blasphemy to God. That she was a creature from the Devil, and now she had to beg for her life.

It was that or the flames of purification.

Sandra knew her end was near. She didn't confess, rather she preferred to be burned. "And so it will be done. God have mercy of your Soul". Those were the cold words of the Inquisitor.

From Bandolera to Witch, now....

Her last night, she had her last meal, stared to the moonlight from the small window, more like a hole of the cell and sang to the moon.

Her friends, the Bandoleros heard the news about the Witch.

It was Sandra, the second in command of their group. In one last attempt to save her, they attack the prison where she was held. They fought and she sang and dance.

The inquisitor seeing they almost reached Sandra's cell, order to burn her inside the cell.

And she danced and sang with the fire. At least is what the legend tells.

But all legends have their half truth. She was rescued, but not from the Bandoleros.

The inquisitor knew what was it. A monster, " Un hijo de la noche"

He heard the voice. It was impossible not to hear such angelical voice.

He saved her from the flames, Embraced her.

As for the Inquisitor... Who knows... Some say he died in the flames, others say he was a new "Hijo de la Noche"

As for Sandra....

She is now a singer, and very famous so to say.

And we are in 2011
